Climate Fee Notice: Old Man Winter is on his way

November 19, 2014

Climate Fee - (888) 413-5105 Toll Free – Dumpster, Residential Roll Off Dumpster, Front Load Equipment, Commercial Dumpster, Construction Dumpsters and Demolition – Free Quote

It’s True! Old Man Winter is certainly on the move…just ask any Arwood Waste team member in the North

For much of the country the Winter months also bring a few changes to how portable toilets and portable sanitation units are serviced to keep them functioning properly in the colder temperatures. Not much is worse than the surprise of a solid chunk of frozen waste when you need to use your portable toilet.

To prevent this experience, we may need to provide an additional climatization service to your unit during the months of November through March. If this is required you may notice a small additional Climate Fee on your bill during the affected months.

Arwood Waste and our partners are committed to providing you excellent service all year long! If you have any questions about the Climate Fee or if we can serve you any way, call us at (800) 477-0854.

Arwood Waste and our partners thank you for trusting us with your Roll Off Dumpster Rental, Portable Toilet Rental, Commercial Dumpster Rental, and Storage Rental needs all year long.

3 Practical Ways to Celebrate Recycling in Your Local Area

November 15, 2014

America Recycles Day - National Garbage Man Day

Happy America Recycles Day – November 15

It’s never too late to begin recycling in your local community.  Here are three easy and practical ways to celebrate recycling:

1. Start today

The hardest part about keeping America beautiful is taking that first step! Start by recycling what you see on the ground in your community. Restore the recycling bin you have lying around your house and begin using it as it was meant to be used. Not only will you be helping the earth, but you’ll save room in your trash can!

2. Get educated

Ignorance shouldn’t have to be an excuse not to recycle.  Learn about what to recycle and where to recycle it at The Recycle Guide.

3. Join the celebration

Connect with an America Recycles Day event near you!  Visit americarecyclesday.org to view all locations.

Find more information about recycling and the role your garbage workers play in the process at The Recycle Guide and National Garbage Man Day!

Breast Cancer Awareness – The Waste Industry Goes Pink

October 29, 2014

Breast Cancer Awareness - National Garbage Man Day

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month…Kudos to the Waste Management Industry for spreading the word

According to the American Cancer Society, in 2013 approximately 39,620 women were expected to die from Breast Cancer. Treatment for this terrible disease is most effective when discovered early through regular screenings which makes public reminders to schedule screenings so important.

“While most people are aware of breast cancer, many forget to take the steps to have a plan to detect the disease in its early stages and encourage others to do the same,” according to the National Breast Cancer Foundation. This truth applies to both genders so men need to be checked for breast cancer too.

We want to highlight a few of the many waste service providers who are raising awareness about breast cancer and helping fund research for a cure this month and all year long.

Republic Services – Pink Ribbons

Cascade Cart Solutions – The Pink Cart

The Pink Carts are available to solid waste and recycling companies across North America with $5 of every purchase going to breast cancer awareness and research in both the United States and Canada.

City of Miami, Oklahoma – Bright Pink Garbage Trucks

The City of Miami, Oklahoma has added a bright pink truck with the signature pink ribbon to it’s fleet to raise awareness about breast cancer in their local community.

WCA – Pink Trucks and “Pink Shirt Fridays” year round

Not only has WCA painted a variety of their trucks, roll-off containers, and commercial dumpsters pink, but they have also initiated an ongoing program called “Pink Shirt Fridays” where they donate $4 to breast cancer research at MD Anderson for each employee who wears a pink shirt to work on the last Friday of every month.

Arwood Waste and Partners Nationwide

Everyone has an important part to play in battling breast cancer from funding research, to reminding those we love to get screened, to scheduling our own appointments to get checked.

We want to thank all of the many commercial and municipal waste service providers for their support and fundraising efforts to find a cure for breast cancer.

National Garbage Man Day and our friends in the waste management industry care about you so make your plan today, tell your friends, and GET SCREENED!

This Day In 1492…

October 13, 2014

Columbus Day - National Garbage Man Day

Happy Columbus Day!

In fourteen hundred ninety-two
Columbus sailed the ocean blue

He kept all of his nautical trash in a can
So you could someday thank your garbage man

Well…that might not be exactly how the real poem went but we like to think it was something like that.

Wherever you are today, may you celebrate discovery and especially the great discovery that Christopher Columbus made during his first voyage to the Americas in 1492. Keep dreaming, creating, and discovering.

Don’t forget to show your appreciation for the men and women who keep our environment safe and clean. Here are some ways to celebrate year round!

Autumn Is Here! 3 Ways to Change with the Season

September 30, 2014

First Day of Autumn - National Garbage Man Day

Autumn is here and it’s a time of change. Whether you’re in a part of the country that’s sunny and warm year-round or a place where you experience the beautiful leaf colors that Autumn brings, change is in the air.

The idea of “Spring Cleaning” doesn’t have to be just for Spring! Use this opportunity of changing seasons to re-organize and get prepared for winter. Here are three ways to do just that:

1. Clean out your closets.

…and your drawers, and anywhere else you may have old items lurking around. Donate any clothes that you haven’t worn in a year. Change out the summer clothes to prepare for the weather change. Consider having a “clothing swap” where friends and neighbors can get together and find “new” items while getting rid of the ones they don’t want or need anymore.

2. Get your priorities set.

A change in season is the perfect time to re-evaluate your priorities. Has there been something on your mental to-do list that still isn’t done? Write down your goals. What things have to get done and what things do you simply want to get done? Use this time to plan how you will spend your time and evaluate what things may not be as important as you once thought they were.

3. Go outside!

Now is the time for “Fall clean up” in your yard. Stay on top of that yard work so you don’t have extra to do next Spring. Keep your driveway and curbs clear of leaves and other fallen debris. Enjoy the weather! If you’ll be expecting a snowy winter, now’s the time to get the last minute “outdoor time” before the cold sets in.

Remember to say thank you to your garbage workers who will be picking up all that yard waste and house waste from your cleaning efforts.

From all of us at National Garbage Man Day, have a great Autumn!
